The club is uniquely located about a mile up river from the harbour entrance and offers opportunities for sailing on both the North Sea and the River Blyth. It allows our members to gain experience on many types of boat and progress their skills. There has always been a strong competitive spirit engendered within the club’s fabric and thus every sailing expedition whether on the river or out to sea includes at least one race. We believe that racing develops a sailor’s skills and creates a strong social cohesion amongst the competitors.
Racing:
The club has an annual programme of dinghy and yacht racing which is organised by the sailing committee.
The yachts race on approximately five Friday nights when the tides allow with socialising and food in the bar afterwards. The growing cruiser fleet benefits from exciting and more challenging North Sea passages to Oostende and other coastal excursions to destinations such as Orford. These are an important part of the annual calendar which help sailors with less experience expand their cruising grounds
The club hosts a regatta every August bank holiday that incorporates dinghy and yacht racing along with social events.
